Networks in North Macedonia
In the Balkan agreement, outside the EU — and the whole country fits between two ranges
North Macedonia is not in the EU but is in the Western Balkans roaming agreement, so a plan from Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania or Kosovo runs here at a reduced rate. An EU plan does not — for a Greek or Bulgarian visitor, both a border away, this is full roaming.
Coverage concentrates along the Skopje–Veles–Prilep–Bitola corridor and around Lake Ohrid, where you will have a full signal along the entire waterfront. Away from that corridor the country is mountainous: Mavrovo, Šar Planina and the east towards Berovo have coverage that follows the roads rather than the terrain.
Ohrid carries a practical detail too: the lakeshore is shared with Albania, so a phone at the southern end can grab an Albanian network. That is a different country and a different rate.
North Macedonia eSIM: questions
When does the plan start counting?
From the first connection to a network in North Macedonia, not from the moment you buy it. Install at home, activate after you land.
Do I get a phone number in North Macedonia?
No. Plans here are data only: use messaging and calling apps over data.
Can I use it as a hotspot?
Yes. Hotspot is included, so a laptop or a second phone can share the data.
What if I run out of data?
Top up the same eSIM with another data plan, any time.
